Polk Somebody recently asked me what I enjoyed the most about RVing. It didn’t take long for me to respond that it was the people you meet at the campground. I don’t know of anywhere else that you can meet complete strangers and within a couple of hours feel as if you’ve known them forever. People at campgrounds are some of the friendliest most helpful people you will ever meet. I have seen it time and again when a camper pulls in and they are having problems with something and their next door neighbor, whom they never met, is right there to assist them. I have also observed and assisted several campers who were new to RVing and not really sure how to set their unit up when they arrive at the campground. While talking to these new Rvers it came up more than once how they wished that they had a checklist to follow to make things easier. However most RVs do have many things in common and that is what we will concentrate on. The purpose of this checklist is to provide a basic system of what to do when you arrive at your site. Use only the items that apply to your RV and feel free to tailor the list to your needs.

Tweet This page is part of a sequence of questions on our RV electrical systems section. You can browse the rest of the related questions at the bottom of this page. The answer to this question depends on whether your RV has 30 amp or 50 amp capabilities. You may have already read this from a previous question in this series, but you can easily know which you have by looking at your power cord. A large plug with 3 prongs is most common and is 30 amps.
Shorting a hot wire can easily cause a fire, but beyond the possibility of a localized burn, volt DC systems are relatively safe. In today’s RVs you can assume that any electrical panel that is protected by removable fuses is a volt DC panel.
Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. Almost every private campground has sites with sewer connections. With those you hook the sewer line which is an accordion-fold pipe, usually stored in one of the bumpers to the unit, and lower the other end into the dump pipe. You can leave it hooked up that way for the duration of your stay. There is a slide on the RV side of the sewer line. Make sure it is in the closed position until you’re hooked up, in case there is anything in the holding tank.
Alyse Nelson On June 27, at 6: In most places, tiny houses run afoul of every one of these sets of rules, and often in several ways. The net effect is to make tiny-house dwellers a band of outlaws. Removing the legal strictures could quickly provide affordable, sustainable housing choices to thousands of people across Cascadia and beyond, at no cost to public treasuries, in neighborhoods already provided with urban infrastructure and well served by transit, schools, community centers, libraries, and parks.
And some cities, such as Portland, are already working towards policy solutions that will bring tiny houses in from the cold.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. The ones I see are always inside the house usually in a closet, basement, or crawlspace. Dan Odell I agree with Brad However, at my house in upstate New York, the sewer line clean out is inside under the basement stairs. Campskunk thanks, dan and brad — i had the feeling things were different up North. Abert One correction, Mike. Some houses do have their septic systems in the front yard, as does ours.
This includes lots of electrical appliances and devices. Watts, or overall power, is a product of current, or amps, and voltage. If you want to know how many different electrical devices you can have on at one time in your RV or in your home, for that matter , this formula will tell you. As long as you stay under the amount of available wattage, your circuits will run smoothly.
Sep 28, · RV Hook Up and Panel for Tiny House I will be building a Tiny House like these: My plan is to have a RV electrical hook up that will be either 30 amp or 50 amp, that part seems pretty straight forward to me.

Robin and Keith, Thank you so much for everything, and for the African Violet. You both have done such a great job making it much nicer for your guests. Wishing you and your family good health. If I had to choose the nicest resort we’ve ever been to, this one would be it – without question. We booked slightly ahead of the Labour Day weekend and expected to take what we could get, based on the short notice.
Besides being wide and spacious, we were an end site – so the grassy area with picnic table that was also part of our site was like having our own personal park! Walking paths, Dragon Lake just metres from our doorstep, and a secure gated beautifully kept resort. I could have moved in for the rest of my life.
Hooking up a amp vehicle to a amp power pedestal whenever possible will help protect the long-term dependability of appliances in your rig, Finch says. The breakers for the electrical systems in most campgrounds are designed with a tolerance of percent, plus or minus. If breakers tripped at exactly 30 amps, they would cost much more — perhaps 10 times as much — as breakers normally used.
A amp outlet supplies 3, watts 30 amps multiplied by volts.
We often have relatives and friends stay in their RVs in our driveway. Right now, the only hookup we can offer is electric. I often wonder what it takes to put a sewage drain in for an RV .
Share Tweet There unfortunately is not a perfect procedure for connecting your utility RV hookups. Awareness Be sure to get a spot in a campground that has the appropriate RV hookups for your type of rig and has enough room to accommodate the size. The coveted pull through sites are always a plus! Find the site hookups and see if you can keep the sewer connection as close to the RV as possible.
Have a look around the site before pulling in to get a good feeling for how you want to be positioned. You RV should have the door side pointing toward the available space where you can have tables, chairs, and possibly a campfire. Watch out for overhead issues like tree limbs. Watch that satellite dish dome if you have one. Back, or Drive In After getting a good feel for the site you can now back in or drive in as you have decided.
Once parked, start leveling your RV. Use the built in system if you have one otherwise you will need leveling blocks. Unwind your hose and connect it to the tap just like at home. Some parks may require a water pressure regulator Connect your sewer line with a Sewer Hose. Ideally there will be no low spots and have a sloping grade to the sewer connection.
June 20, Campskunk 30 Comments If you already have a satellite television setup at your sticks and bricks house, it’s easy to take it with you when traveling. I have been fulltiming for three years now and have been able to set up my satellite television dish and watch TV wherever I go in about 15 minutes. Here’s how it’s done.
First, you have to get the equipment.
Apr 13, · Hook up a pressure regulator to the spigot to protect your entire system. If you have a water filter, you can connect it directly to the regulator and then attach your hose to the filter.
How Do Cordless Headphones Work? Being able to fire up a volt coffee pot in the morning without first firing up an expensive-to-run, noisy generator is a great convenience. Being able to charge cellphones, two-way radios and anything else that uses mains electricity for free while driving is another plus. Inverters are manufactured in sizes large enough to power microwaves, complete TV-based entertainment systems and washer-dryers. Power Requirments Decide on the amount of power you will require from your inverter.
If it will be needed only to run a cellphone charger, then no wiring is required; simply buy a small portable unit designed to plug into a volt power outlet or cigar lighter, read the instructions and press the device into the receiver. Clearing Space Clear a space in which to fit a larger inverter. The space should be in a location where the potential for accidental damage is minimized, not at foot level in an accessway, below an area where fluids are regularly transferred or near a source of heat.
Nothing flammable should be in the vicinity, and air must be able to circulate freely around the device. The inverter should be located close to the battery that will supply its power, but not in the same compartment or cargo hold. The substrate to which the inverter is to be fitted must be sturdy and noncombustible. Very large inverters are typically fitted to a sliding tray that conceals inside one of the exterior cargo bays. Securing it in Place Fix the inverter to a secure support.
